FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to geoelectric prospecting by electromagnetic field formation methods and can be used to determine presence of hydrocarbons and outline of deposit. Summary: alternating electromagnetic field of transverse-magnetic (TM) polarization is formed. Magnetic and electric components of electromagnetic field are measured. Maps of the distributed polarization parameter determined by electrical components and a map of the measured signals of the magnetic component are plotted. In places where maxima of signals of magnetic component and polarization parameter coincide, presence of hydrocarbon deposits is determined. Formation of variable electromagnetic field of transverse-magnetic (TM) polarization can be performed by means of circular electric dipole (CED), vertical line or backward electric line.
EFFECT: technical result is the possibility of detecting hydrocarbon deposits at depths of several kilometres in media with specific resistance of less than 50 Ohm⋅m.
