FIELD: measurement technology; pocket electronic devices.

SUBSTANCE: present invention relates generally to handheld electronic devices and, in particular, to use of such devices for measuring path length. Method comprises using a processor to perform steps of measuring acceleration of a handheld electronic device, while the pocket electronic device is carried out along the path in the first direction, thereby obtaining acceleration sections for three measurements for the first direction, initial and final points of displacement are identified and integration is performed between initial and final displacement points to find length. Acceleration measurements are then obtained in the second direction, thereby obtaining acceleration sections for three measurements for the second direction, identifying a middle point substantially in the middle between two measurements and dividing the acceleration measurements into two parts at that middle point, wherein the identification of the midpoint comprises weighing the acceleration values, corresponding to dominant vector, thus obtaining new vector containing weighted values.

EFFECT: invention provides a method of measuring a path on a three-dimensional object using a pocket electronic device comprising an acceleration sensor.
