FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: apparatus for monitoring the pain level of a subject based on the size of the pupil of the subject having an iris and a pupil, comprises: a transparent carrier for being in contact with a subject's eye and a photosensor, facing the eye of the subject, to receive light reflected from the eye of the subject, and to determine intensity of the received light. Photosensor is placed on the transparent carrier and contains one of the following: photodetectors, arranged in the form of a two-dimensional matrix and at a distance from each other to enable passage of incident light between them for penetration into the eye of the subject, wherein photodetectors are located in rows of photodetectors or in concentric circles substantially covering the iris and the eye pupil of the subject; single photodetector covering iris and pupil of subject's eye. System comprises: a device for monitoring the pain level of a subject based on the size of the pupil of the subject; a communication interface for communicating with the device and for receiving from the device at least one of the light intensity and a pupil size monitoring parameter determined based on the light intensity; and a pupil size monitoring interface for outputting information determined based on said received at least one of light intensity and a pupil size monitoring parameter. Method includes the steps of: receiving light reflected from the subject's eye, using a photosensor, determining the intensity of the received light; determining a pupil parameter, indicating the size of the pupil of the subject, based on the determined light intensity and determining at least one of the pain parameter indicating the pain level in the individual and/or the analgesia parameter, indicating the subject's analgesia depth, based on the pupil parameter. Non-ordinary data medium containing a computer program product containing a computer-readable code built into it, which is made so that when it is executed by computer or processor computer or processor method is performed.
EFFECT: using the given group of inventions enables providing higher level of accuracy of monitoring the size and position of the pupil of the individual's eye.
