FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to hydrometallurgical methods for reprocessing of irradiated nuclear fuel (INF), in particular, invention can be used for stabilization of plutonium (IV) in nitrate solutions at separation of actinide elements by extraction methods. Method of producing a solution of a nitrate salt of tetravalent plutonium consists in electrochemical reduction on a cathode of a solution of a nitrate acid salt of hexavalent plutonium in an electrolysis cell with separated anode and cathode spaces at 25÷35 °C and cathode current density 3÷6 A/dm2.
EFFECT: invention enables to achieve recovery degree of plutonium (VI) to plutonium (IV) of 99_8 %.
