FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a cathode unit for an aluminum electrolysis cell based on carbon and/or graphite. Cathode unit has at least one slot extending in the cathode block longitudinal direction and serving to accommodate at least one bus, wherein at least one of at least one slot has a variable depth, if viewed along the length of the cathode block, and is confined by a wall in which there is at least one protrusion, extending into slot, wherein said wall comprises bottom wall and two side walls, wherein bottom wall has at least one projection extending into slot, which preferably extends vertically into at least one slot.
EFFECT: disclosed is use of cathode unit for electrolysis of molten salts for metal production, preferably for production of aluminum.
