FIELD: chemical-thermal treatment.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemical heat treatment, specifically to cementation processes, and can be used in machine building, automotive industry and other industries for surface hardening of parts made from low-carbon structural steels. Method comprises two-step processing mode carried out in a medium of carbon-containing gases. First stage includes heating to temperature above point Ac3 (for example, 920–940 °C) to transfer steel into austenitic state, holding at this temperature for 1.0–2.5 hours. At the second diffusion saturation stage, the temperature from AC3 point to the selected temperature is from 680–570 °C range and holding at this temperature for 1.5–2.5 hours.
EFFECT: reduced duration of the process of cementation, obtaining a saturated layer with high hardness after hardening and low tempering, stable optimum structure of the surface layer, optimum distribution of hardness over the depth of the hardened layer.
