FIELD: hygiene.

SUBSTANCE: disclosed is an oral cleaning device (10) for determining the position of a cleaning head of a device, comprising: body portion (12); cleaning head (14) extending from the body portion, wherein at least a portion of the cleaning head is movable relative to the body portion; controller (30); optical sensor (28) located relative to cleaning head element and body section and in communication with controller. Optical sensor is configured to obtain data of the optical sensor, which are the result of deviation or rotation of the cleaning head element relative to the body portion. Optical sensor has first section (40) located on the housing section and second section (42) located on the cleaning head element and containing reflector (44). At that, first section comprises light source (46), first light sensor (48) located on one side of light source, and a second light sensor (50) located on the second side of the light source, or a first portion comprises light sensor (48), a first light source (46a) arranged on one side of the light sensor, and a second light source (46b) disposed at a second light sensor side.

EFFECT: controller is configured to receive data of optical sensor and determine deviation or rotation of cleaning head element relative to housing section.
