FIELD: electrical communication engineering.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to means of constructing a hierarchy for automation field devices. To this end, a system is provided which constructs a hierarchy for field devices connected to communicate with a remote terminal unit (RTU), by extracting device information from field devices, caching device information in memory of said RTU, storing device identifiers in a storage device of the host computer and obtaining device information in the host computer from the RTU in response to subsequent user requests for constructing the hierarchy without repeated sending instructions for extracting device information directly from the field device.
EFFECT: technical result is faster process of constructing a hierarchical model.
