FIELD: tool production.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to tool production and can be used for backing-off of tooth back surface of thread cutters for making metric thread with using grinding. Method includes rotation of grinding wheel and thread cutter and their relative motion along the backing-off curve. Method comprises grinding wheel with two-sided conical profile, which is rotated relative to initial coordinate system successively by a predetermined angles with rotation of grinding wheel around its own axis, crossed with axis of threaded cutter, from condition that, depending on diameter of thread-forming part of cutter, thread pitch, front and rear angles and angle of inclination of chip grooves cutting edges on teeth, obtained by crossing front surface and formed at specified angles of rear surface, when rotating around threaded cutter axis, initial tool surface of thread cutter is produced to obtain preset angles of profile in axial section and to form thread with given profile angle.

EFFECT: possibility of forming rear surface of teeth of threaded cutters of different standard size with one standard size of grinding wheel without using straightening operation.
