FIELD: machine engineering, namely worm tools for working toothed products. SUBSTANCE: worm tool includes cutting portion. It is made on base of main hyperboloid worm produced at helical motion of initial toothed rack with inclination of helical motion along its axis by angle equal to leading angle of turns of worm of initial cylinder. In order to lower distortion of teeth profile, active worm is produced at helical motion of the whole row of teeth of initial toothed rack engaging with worked wheel. Cutting portion is in the form of flat single-turn springs or cutting tips secured by means of springs. Method for making worm tool comprises steps of straightening worm tool in order to coincide worm profile with profile of initial rack after assembling it and mounting in gear cutting machine tool. Straightening is realized in cross section normal relative to mean turn at constant profile of turns similar to profile of all teeth of initial rack engaging with worked wheel in machine tool while correcting angle of skew feed according to given relation. In order to provide possibility for straightening hyperboloid worm tool, machine tool for exploitation of worm tool is provided with mechanism for straightening or forming hyperboloid surface. Said mechanism is mounted in rotary head (whose rotation axis is normal relative to axis of worm tool) with possibility of inclination of lead screw with nut. Movable carriage with second-order tool is also arranged on head and it is inclined relative to axis of worm tool kinematically joined with carriage. Machine tool for making worm tool for skew relieving has relieved rest provided with pair of non-round or eccentric wheels for realizing axial stroke at relieving. Said wheels are mounted in kinematic circuit conforming lengthwise feed of tool carriage with rotation of worm tool in the form of milling cutter and they have radiuses of initial circle providing change of relation of angular velocities in predetermined range.
