FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a target tracking device using a photodetector with quadrants. Target tracking device (2) comprises optical system (4) and photodetector (6) with quadrants (Q1-Q4), wherein optical system (4) is configured to project a light beam originating from the target into one spot at least one of quadrants (Q1-Q4), and photodetector (6) is configured to evaluate current position of spot by weighing values of light energy received by quadrants (Q1-Q4). Optical system (4) comprises optical device (10) configured to increase the spot if the spot is completely contained only in one of the quadrants (Q1-Q4). Invention also relates to a tracking method which can be implemented by a tracking device.
EFFECT: technical result is higher rate of location of spot, projected on detector with quadrants, if this spot is limited by single quadrant, by means of device, which is more resistant to vibrations or to temperature changes, consumes less power, which is easier to control, and which has higher quality of transmission.
