SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means of reconstructing a wave front in an optical system. Method of two-dimensional reconstruction of wave fronts (104) of light for use in optical system (100) includes measurement of light intensity distribution function in at least two images in different optical planes (101, 102), having optical path difference, wherein said measurement includes: determining a plurality of one-dimensional cumulative light intensity distribution functions in each plane (101, 102) over a range of different angles in each plane, matching certain one-dimensional cumulative distribution functions of different optical planes to obtain two-dimensional estimates of wavefront steepness in plane (103) located between said different optical planes, integrating said wavefront steepness estimates to recover a two-dimensional wave front shape (104) in said plane (103) located between said different optical planes.

EFFECT: invention provides simplification and acceleration of restoration of initial wave front.
