CATIONIC POLYMER WITH AT LEAST BIMODAL MOLECULAR WEIGHT DISTRIBUTION Russian patent published in 2020 - IPC C08F2/22 C08F220/34 C08F226/00 C08L39/04 C08L39/06

Abstract RU 2735320 C2

FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a cationic polymer, a method of producing said cationic polymer, as well as to a reverse dispersion, a thickener or auxiliary means for deposition, containing at least one of said cationic polymers. Cationic polymer is obtained via polymerisation of at least one cationic monomer and at least one non-ionic monomer (monomer component a), at least one cross-linking agent (monomer component b) and optionally at least one chain transfer agent (monomer component c). Cationic polymer has at least bimodal molecular weight distribution with at least one first peak (P1) and at least one second peak (P2), where first peak has relatively low average sedimentation coefficient ≤ 10 Svedberg units, and the second peak has a relatively high average sedimentation coefficient ≥ 10000 Svedberg units. Water-soluble polymer components of the cationic polymer are ≥ 25 wt % relative to total amount of cationic polymer. Polymerisation is carried out in the form of two consecutive stages I) and II). Step I) involves polymerisation of monomer component a) and monomer component b). Step II involves polymerisation of monomer component a), optionally monomer component c) in complete absence or in presence of less than 10 parts per million (relative to total amount of polymer) of monomer component b). Stage II is carried out after polymerisation at stage I is completed.

EFFECT: obtained cationic polymers contribute to the stability and efficiency of the product, such as an aqueous composition, containing corresponding cationic polymer, inverse dispersion or auxiliary means for deposition, and can be successfully used as auxiliary means for deposition in liquid compositions for washing, especially in fabric softeners.
