FIELD: waste processing and disposal.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for processing radioactive wastes, particularly porous-fibrous heat-insulating materials formed during operation of nuclear power engineering and industry. Method of processing radioactive wastes of heat-insulating materials (HIM) by pressing them with a screw in an extruder under high pressure while heating from 250 to 350 °C, as a result of which there is destruction of bonds in HIM and obtaining fine powder, removal of moisture to values of not more than 3–5 %, and its cooling in air to ambient temperature.
EFFECT: invention reduces reduction of entrainment in gas phase of cesium-137 from 9–20 % to 2 %; simplify technologies for processing HIM by eliminating technological operations for drying, grinding, adding reagents and stirring the mixture thoroughly before heat treatment.
