SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method and a server for selective presentation of content recommendation blocks in a browser application of an electronic device. Method is carried out by server includes receiving indication of browser application state and indication of user action with said browser application, determining attributes associated with at least part of the web resource, receiving an indication of additional content at least partially based on the plurality of said features, and executing a machine learning algorithm (MLA) for determining a recommendation estimate based at least on the state of the browser application. Based on the recommendation evaluation, the server selectively sends to the browser application at least one data packet, capable of initiating display by a browser application of a unit of recommendations containing additional content on the display of the electronic device.

EFFECT: high efficiency of presenting a block of recommendations to a user by determining, whether to display or not display additional content to user during content viewing by user.
