SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a composition for forming α-gel. Described is a composition for forming α-gel used in composition for external application on skin, including, based on the total amount of surfactants based on polyoxyethylene: 15 to 50 wt % polyoxyethylene dialkyl ether represented by formula (I) given below, and from 5 to 80 wt % alkyl ether of polyoxyethylene represented by formula (II) given below and 80 wt % or less polyoxyethylene and sterol ether, represented by formula (III) given below:

where in formula (I), each of R1 and R2 is a straight-chain aliphatic acid residue or a straight-chain aliphatic alcohol residue, containing from 16 to 24 carbon atoms, and n is integer from 4 to 15, and in formula (II) R is a straight-chain aliphatic acid residue or a straight-chain aliphatic alcohol residue containing from 16 to 24 carbon atoms, and n is an integer ranging from 8 to 30; and in formula (III), R3 is a phytosterol residue and n is integer from 5 to 30.

EFFECT: technical result is providing composition for education α-gel and composition including it α-gel, which provide a refreshing effect during application, high efficiency of skin moistening after application and have high stability, in which crystals do not form over time or do not increase viscosity when used as compositions for external application.
