FIELD: technological processes.

SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to a device and a method for hardening a locomotive pivot pin radial surface by rolling. Proposed device comprises rolling head with rollers and power element to force rollers to be pressed against machined surface. Power element is made in the form of a spring placed in the housing installed on the plate with wheels for movement by means of lugs arranged in the upper part of the housing. Support plates are made at the bottom of plate to fix said device on support surface, spring is pressed to plate through guide screw. Screw is connected to the rolling head with the drive of the rolling head for its rotation. Said method is characterized in that locomotive is installed on process posts or jacks, said device is arranged under locomotive pivot pin, rolling head with rollers by screw drive rotation is lifted up to contact of rollers with hardened surface of pivot pin. Lubricating-cooling process medium is applied on the rolled pivot pin radius surface; by the screw drive rotation the force is provided for pressing rollers of the rolling head by means of spring compression. Pressing force of the rollers is selected taking into account the pivot pin surface geometry, increasing the pressing force of the rollers in several stages. At the last stage, the specified number of revolutions of the rolling head is performed to obtain surface plastic deformation of the pivot pin material.

EFFECT: rolling of radial surface of locomotive pivot pin is hardened by rolling, which enables to reduce labor costs for hardening, and also increases technological effectiveness of works.
