FIELD: machine building.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method and a device for braking a machine comprising drive (10), preferably a direct drive, with an electric motor and working machine (20), preferably working machine (20) for metalworking, wherein drive (10) is configured to rotate shaft of working machine (20). Method includes braking without friction of machine with transition from working mode to stop mode, in which shaft of working machine (20) is essentially in rest state, by means of electric braking device (40), machine is mechanically stopped in shutdown mode by means of and by means of actuation of mechanical retaining device (50). Electric braking device (40) and mechanical retaining device (50) are controlled so that substantially all kinetic energy of operating mode is converted by electric braking device (40), and mechanical retaining device (50) is actuated only in machine shutdown mode.
EFFECT: result is reliable braking and retention of high torque moments.
