FIELD: powder metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of fine powder of Pd5Ba intermetallide. It can be used for production of cathodes. Palladium powder and barium metal powdered in vacuum are placed in a vacuumized and sealed quartz retort and synthesis of Pd5Ba intermetallic compound is carried out in two steps. At first step retort is heated to temperature of 900–950 °C for 1–1.5 hours, and at second stage—to temperature of 1280–1300 °C for 20–30 minutes. Sponge obtained in retort is crushed at hydraulic press, ground in steel ball mill and sifted through a sieve with a cell of not more than 50x50 mcm to obtain a fine powder of intermetallide Pd5Ba. Obtained powder is freed from finely dispersed products of grinding and grinding by means of magnetic field in drum separator.
EFFECT: higher homogeneity and stability of secondary emission properties of cathodes.
