SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method of purifying propylene oxide, comprising (i) providing a stream of S0 containing propylene oxide, acetonitrile, water and an organic compound, containing a carbonyl group -C(=O)-, where said organic compound containing a carbonyl group -C(=O), is selected from acetone, propionaldehyde and mixtures of acetone and propionaldehyde, (ii) separating propylene oxide from stream S0 through distillation, comprising exposing stream S0 to distillation conditions in a distillation column, to obtain gaseous upper stream S1c, which is enriched with propylene oxide compared to stream S0, liquid bottom stream S1a, which is enriched with acetonitrile and water compared to stream S0, and side stream S1b, containing propylene oxide, which is enriched with carbonyl compound compared to flow S0, where the distillation column operates at absolute pressure at the top of the distillation column in range of 0.1 to 2.0 bar and an internal back flow coefficient in range of 2.0 to 6.0, where the distillation column exhibits from 100 to 150 theoretical trays, the distillation column of the distillation column consists of 30 to 70 % theoretical plates, and stripping section of the distillation column consists of 70 to 30 % of theoretical plates.

EFFECT: disclosed method significantly reduces content of carbonyl compounds and water in the stream of propylene oxide without using additives.
