SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a silicon trap catalyst in a protective layer used in hydrofining hydrocarbon feedstock after sulphurization of the composition directly in a reactor, including hydrogenating metals—nickel and molybdenum oxides, and aluminum oxide as a support, wherein the catalyst has the following composition, wt %: NiO 0.2–0.5, MoO₃ 1.0–1.5, Al₂O₃ support—the rest, and the support used is a re-precipitated aluminum hydroxide of the pseudo-boehmite structure treated with a mixture of low-molecular organic acids and a polymer organic modifier, wherein the low-molecular organic acids used are a mixture of tartaric acid and oxalic acid with total content of 1.0–3.0 wt % and polymer organic modifier used is starch in amount of 1–3 wt %. Invention also relates to a method of preparing a catalyst—a silicon trap.

EFFECT: technical result consists in improvement of sorption capacity of catalyst on silicon, mechanical strength for splitting and improvement of texture characteristics of catalyst.
