FIELD: waste processing and disposal.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of processing wastes of electrolytic production of primary aluminum in form of solid carbon-containing material containing aluminum, fluorides and Na+ ions, in particular, for processing spent lining (PSL) used in production of primary aluminum. Method involves leaching solid carbonaceous material with at least one aqueous alkaline solution to form an extraction solution, containing aluminum in a water-soluble form, fluorides and Na+ ions, and at least one solid insoluble residue. After that insoluble solid residue is separated from extraction solution. Method includes performing membrane electrolysis of extraction solution free from said solid insoluble residue to form at least one residue, containing said aluminum, and at least one aqueous solution of NaOH.

EFFECT: method enables recycling PSL with removal of potentially hazardous substances and their reuse at production.
