FIELD: production of specialized thickeners.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of the production of specialized thickeners and the use of the obtained thickeners in highly-viscous non-aqueous compositions. It is proposed to use at least one mixed mineral rheological additive from organoclay which contains or consists of a mixture of different types of clay treated with a quaternary alkylammonium salt obtained by forming an aqueous suspension of chormite clay (a), the formation of an aqueous suspension of smectite clay (b), combining an aqueous suspension of chormite clay (a) with an aqueous suspension of smectite clay (b) to form a mixed suspension of clay (c), by treating the combined suspension of clay (c) with one or more quaternary alkyl ammonium salts where an aqueous suspension of chormite clay (a) is formed by dispersing a fraction of one or several chormite clays selected from the group of sepiolites and palygorskites in an aqueous medium, with the formation of a dispersion, and the used fraction of chormite clay contains less than 3.0 wt.% of Al2O3, less than 1.0 wt.% of Fe2O3 and less than 3.5 wt. % of a combination of Al2O3 and Fe2O3; and an aqueous slurry of smectite clay (b) is obtained by dispersing a fraction of one or more smectite clays in an aqueous medium to form a dispersion, and the weight content of the chromite clay exceeds the weight content of smectite clay in the mixed slurry of clay (c); and the chormite clay slurry (a) and the smectite clay slurry (b) are subject to high-speed fluid shear before combining both slurries and/or after combining both slurries, and wherein one or more chormite clays used in forming the aqueous chormite clay slurry (a) has the exchange capacity of methylene blue which is lower than 20 mmol of methylene blue per 100 g of one or more chormite clays in a dry state, and the fraction of chormite clay used in the formation of an aqueous suspension of chormite clay (a) has an integral width B = (effective reflection area) / (effective reflection height) of reflection (110) in an X-ray powder diffractogram recorded on an oriented glycated sample of a chormite clay fraction using Cu-Kα1 radiation, less than 0.800 scan units in a liquid composition, as a thickener in a liquid organic composition. The invention also relates to a method for producing a mixed mineral rheological additive and to the use of the additive as a thickener in liquid compositions.
EFFECT: invention improves efficiency of mineral rheological additives of organoclay.
