FIELD: astronautics.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in space engineering during ground development of new models of closed electron drift engines (CEDE) and when transferring them to alternative working substances. Method for accelerated determination of life of CEDE elements, consisting in sequential execution of engine cycles, involving application on surface of analyzed element of multilayer coating consisting of alternating pairs of optically contrasting layers, short-term test of engine until complete spraying of applied coating, determining the erosion profile of the multilayer coating from the spray pattern, calculating prediction of the erosion profile for a given time, machining the analyzed element to give it a calculated shape. Method differs from that in using multilayer coatings to determine the erosion rate of the analyzed surface, which reduces experiment time many times. To determine coefficients of proportionality between speed of spraying material of element CEDE and multilayer coatings at the first cycle, short resource test of engine is performed with subsequent direct measurement of erosion profile. In the remaining cycles, the rate of erosion of the material of the CEDE elements is determined from the pattern of spraying the multilayer coatings using the derived proportionality coefficients.
EFFECT: technical result: shorter time for experimental determination of life of new advanced CEDE models during bench development.
