SUBSTANCE: invention relates namely to electrochemical capacitors, and can be used as a collector of the current of a polarizable electrode in the electrode assembly of an electrochemical capacitor with an alkaline electrolyte. A method for manufacturing a current collector includes contacting a carbon-containing precursor with a metal-containing substrate and subsequent heating of the contact product in an inert and practically oxygen-free atmosphere with the reduction of at least a part of the substrate, a nickel strip with an oxidized surface is used as a metal-containing substrate, and a carbon-containing precursor is natural gas, a metal-containing the substrate is obtained by oxidizing a nickel strip in a furnace in an oxygen-containing atmosphere at a temperature of 895-905°C for 3 minutes, the metal-containing substrate contacts a carbon-containing precursor, natural gas at a temperature of 895-905°C in a furnace with a natural gas atmosphere for 2 minutes with reduction to metallic nickel and the formation of a nickel-carbon composite, the resulting product is cooled in air.

EFFECT: technical result of the invention is to maintain a low contact resistance of the current collector of an electrochemical capacitor with an alkaline electrolyte during its cycling due to carbonization of the substrate surface.
