FIELD: heat treatment of cutting tools.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of heat treatment of cutting tools. The method of laser hardening of a small-size drill made of high-speed steel R6M5 includes four-fold laser treatment of the surface of a small-size drill with pulse energy of 8 J, pulse duration of 4 ms at a wavelength of 1.06 μm and pulse energy density, which ensures the transformation of the initial microstructure into a fine-dispersed one without melting drill surface. Firstly leading and trailing edges of the drill are subjected to processing, and then its spiral part with an overlap ratio of 0.7.
EFFECT: invention ensures increased tool wear resistance and improved surface quality.
