FIELD: chemical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: the application describes a method for carrying out a cascade process of (quick) ion polymerization of a reaction mixture containing liquid monomers in order to produce necessary polymers. The method is carried out in a polymerization system comprising the first homogenizing pre-polymerization unit (“Main Directorate of Industrial Enterprises”) the second polymerization unit, which are connected in series. The polymerization reaction begins in the “MDIE” and continues in the second polymerization unit. The second polymerization unit consists of a polymerization circuit, a refrigerant circuit and a heat exchanger reactor system (“СРТ”) which is separated between the polymerization circuit and the refrigerant circuit. The “СРТ” is characterized by the ratio of the surface area to the volume of the reaction mixture (S/V, expressed in m2/m3) which equals to more than 10 and less than 450. “MDIE” is the fluid environment device comprising channels for a fluid environment passage, the minimum size of which ranges from 50 µm to 8.0 mm. “MDIE” is characterized by the ratio of the surface area to the volume of the reaction mixture (S/V, expressed in m2/m3) which equals to more than 600, preferably from 1000 to 5000. The ratio between the residence time of the reaction mixture in the first homogenizing pre-polymerization unit and the residence time of the reaction mixture in the second polymerization unit ranges from 0.01% to 5%.
EFFECT: realization of the energy-efficient process of producing a polymer with a narrow distribution by molecular masses due to reduction of pipeline and reactor sizes, the possibility for introducing reagents to different reactor sections, the reduction of dead zones, uniformity of refrigeration, low pressure ratio.
