FIELD: shipbuilding.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of shipbuilding and relates to hydrofoil watercrafts. Proposed is a method for steering a watercraft comprising at least one hydrofoil, at least one hydrofoil comprising one or more holes on its first and/or second surface. The amount of liquid that is pushed out or pulled into at least one of one or more holes is determined. Liquid is pushed or pulled through at least one of the several holes in accordance with the determined value, thereby changing and/or creating lifting force, sheer, tilt and/or rolling force on the hydrofoil for steering the watercraft. Also disclosed is a corresponding flotation apparatus with a hydrofoil, holes and steering means. In this implementation, stability, efficiency of energy use and/or steering efficiency of the watercraft can be improved. Other implementations comprise a wind-powered watercraft wherein the rolling force induced by wind, for example, on one or more sails or kites, is counteracted by a hydrofoil.
