For monitoring using the HVAC system, HVAC data transmission messages are received and stored in the cloud computer system. Each HVAC data message includes one or more operating data values as enabled by the HVAC controller of the HVAC system.A cloud-based computer system generates remote diagnostics results for a specific HVAC device using multiple HVAC data messages received from multiple HVAC controllers of one or more HVAC systems. Each remote diagnostic result is generated (S73) using multiple operating data values included in the HVAC data messages received from the HVAC controllers of multiple HVAC systems and / or based on at least two different types of operating data values. A diagnostic result message, which includes the remote diagnostic result, is sent to the diagnostic data processing system for the specific HVAC device.
