FIELD: oil products.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of petroleum chemistry, petroleum products supply and means of combating theft and forging of petroleum products. The invention relates to a method of marking petroleum products which consists in introducing a marker, constituting an organic compound, into the petroleum product mass, followed by detection thereof. Tenoyltrifluoroacetone or benzoyltrifluoroacetone is used as a marker, wherein the concentration of the marker in the petroleum product is 20 ppm and detection is performed by processing a sample of the marked petroleum product using an aqueous-alcoholic solution of a salt of trivalent europium in the presence of phenanthroline hydrate and observing the red luminescence occurring during UV irradiation.
EFFECT: effective hidden marking of petroleum products using minimal amount of marker.
