FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in the manufacture of labels, notebooks, tapes, stickers, adhesive bandages and decorative and protective coatings. The water-based adhesive composition contains an interpolymer dispersed in an aqueous medium and a compound selected from conjugate acid, conjugate acid monoester, and mixtures thereof, the conjugate acid being derived from tung oil. The interpolymer contains an unsaturated monomer selected from 2-ethylhexyl acrylate, ethyl acrylate, butyl acrylate, methyl(meth)acrylate, (meth)acrylic acid, and mixtures thereof. The specified conjugated acid contains an aliphatic carboxylic acid containing at least three conjugated double bonds, and its amount is 0.01-5% by weight of the interpolymer. To obtain an adhesive composition, the unsaturated monomer and at least one surfactant are first dispersed in an aqueous medium. At least one initiator for polymerization of the specified unsaturated monomer is added to the resulting emulsified mixture. During the polymerization of the unsaturated monomer, a conjugate acid derived from tung oil, a monoester of this conjugate acid, or a mixture thereof, are added.
EFFECT: adhesive composition is characterized by improved adhesion and cohesion.
