SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of electrical engineering, namely to the protective coating of metal bipolar plates of fuel cells with a solid polymer electrolyte. The protective coating of the bipolar plates of fuel cells with a solid polymer electrolyte is made based on conductive polymers, which are a side product of processing hexose-containing biomass into 5-hydroxymethylfurfural. This coating helps to reduce the rate of corrosion processes occurring on metal bipolar plates during the operation of the fuel cell.

EFFECT: increased corrosion resistance of the plates while maintaining their conductive properties.
