FIELD: engine building.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the area of engine building, namely to a design of engines with an external heat supply usable as a drive in various machines, stationary and mobile power units in the automobile, tractor, electric power and other branches of industry. Proposed is an engine with an external heat supply including a working cylinder, a heating chamber, a piston, a crank arm, an inlet and an outlet valves, an inlet and an outlet channels with 90 degree rotation, the heating chamber channel is located on the periphery of the working cylinder between the outlet and inlet channels located on the same surface with the heating chamber channel, the heating chamber protrudes above the inlet and outlet channels located in the same plane therewith. The heating chamber is made with an internal structural space wherein the working medium is heated. The method of operation of an engine with an external heat supply includes partial utilisation of a high-temperature spent working medium to heat a fresh charge of the working medium in the heating chamber.

EFFECT: technical result of the invention is simplified design of the engine due to application of a small number of structural elements with small mass and dimensional characteristics, utilisation of a spent hot working medium released from the engine cylinder to heat a fresh charge of the working medium in the heating chamber, increased degree of filling with a fresh charge of the working cylinder due to low vortex formation intensity of the working medium in the inlet channel due to smooth shape and large flow passage of the inlet channel leading to increased inflow rate of the working medium into the cylinder, decreased vortex formation intensity of the working medium in the inlet and outlet channels due to minimal resistance of the channel shape at the turning point.
