SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of wireless communication. The technical result consists in providing the wireless device with flexibility during random access, providing the possibility of saving resources, increasing the throughput of the wireless communication network, reducing the delay and increasing the coverage area. When operating in a wireless communication network (100), a wireless device (130) issues (602) a message sent to a network node (110) operating in a wireless communication network (100), and initiates sending (603) the issued message to a network node (110). The message is the first scheduled message to be sent to the network node (110) in a random-access procedure, wherein the message contains a first message type indicator (707), the message type being a) SDU (702) fixed size and b) a one-byte header (704) containing the first indicator (707) and not containing the second indicator (716) of the payload length.
