SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely to therapy, and can be used in estimation of body mass. The method includes measuring the mass and height of the body, then calculating the perfectly balanced body mass (PBBM) and the normalized body mass index (NBMI) by the formulas: PBBM = (H - 101)∙0.95; NBMI = BM / PBBM, where H is the height of the person, in cm; BM is the body mass of the person, in kg, and according to the NBMI value, the body mass of the person is estimated corresponding with the height: NBMI<0.63 critical BM deficiency, 0.63≤NBMI<0.75 severe BM deficiency, 0.75≤NBMI<0.90 moderate BM deficiency, 0.90≤NBMI<0.95 conditional norm - insignificant deficiency, 0.95≤NBMI≤1.0526 normal BM, 1.0526<NBMI≤1.1111 conditional norm - slight redundancy, 1.1111<NBMI≤1.3333 moderate redundancy, 1.3333<NBMI≤1.5873 pronounced BM redundancy, 1.5873<NBMI critical BM redundancy.

EFFECT: use of the invention allows simplifying and objectifying estimation of human body mass by use of physically and physiologically justified formulas in calculation.
