SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means of microbial growth suppression. An antimicrobial composition contains an acyl lactylate selected from the group consisting of sodium isostearoyl lactylate, sodium caproyl/lauroyl lactylate, sodium lauroyl lactylate and combinations thereof, a glycol selected from the group consisting of propylene glycol, 1,2-hexanediol, methylpropanediol and isopentyl and combinations thereof, and a carrier. The carrier contains water, wherein water makes up for more than 95% wt. of the composition. Optionally, the antimicrobial composition comprises one or more ingredients selected from the group consisting of a pH adjusting ingredient and a fragrance. The antimicrobial composition is designed for use in a method of microbial growth suppression in a product through application thereof to the product. The antimicrobial composition is also applied to a substrate resulting in antimicrobial towels.

EFFECT: proposed antimicrobial composition provides effective removal of microbiological contamination on any surfaces, food and hygiene products, prevents recontamination and is safe for use in humans and animals.
