SUBSTANCE: invention relates to transport engineering and aircraft engine building and is applicable for ground tests of the afterburner at stands and airfields. The set tasks in the method of testing the afterburner of a gas turbine engine, which consists in its cyclic loading and simulation of flight altitude, while changing the air pressure on the afterburner flow regulator and thereby changing the afterburner fuel consumption, are solved by shutting off the air supply due to the gas turbine compressor engine from the afterburner flow regulator and connect to it the supply of process air from the autonomous power system through the pressure regulator, while the process air pressure at the outlet of the pressure regulator from the autonomous power system is changed in comparison with the air pressure behind the compressor of the gas turbine engine according to the program of increasing the fuel consumption through afterburner is higher than operating values. Due to the fact that an increase in the load on the structural elements of the afterburner is higher than the operating values, during the equivalent-cyclic tests of the gas turbine engine, the strength characteristics of the structural elements of the afterburner were checked in ground conditions for a long service life.

EFFECT: increasing the confirmation accuracy and reducing the test time for a long service life in ground conditions by increasing the load on the afterburner above the operating values.
