FIELD: controlling.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method and system for controlling software containers. The method comprises receiving from a client of a computational resource service provider one or more application programming interface (API) calls to create a cluster of virtual machine instances executing the process; and, in response to one or more API calls: creating multiple virtual machine instances; associating multiple computing machine instances with a cluster identifier; receiving a task definition that: displays the location of the software image associated with the process; and includes the information used in determining the amount of computational resources of the virtual machine instance to allocate to the software container; and for each virtual machine instance from the multiple virtual machine instances: obtaining a software image from a location; allocating the amount of computational resources on the virtual machine instance for a software container; and launching a software container on the virtual machine instance, wherein the software container is activated separately from other software containers activated on the virtual machine instance; and executing, based on at least a part of the software image, at least a part of the processes in the software container.

EFFECT: technical result is controlling the allocation of the amount of computational resources to the software container.
