FIELD: construction.
SUBSTANCE: escalator has multiple steps (3) and an arrangement of guide rails to guide steps (3), in particular when traveling in the opposite direction. Each step has a front gearing structure on the forward-facing end surface, and a rear gearing structure on the rearward-facing section of under-step platform (25), wherein the front and rear structures are made so compatible with each other that they can enter each other with the comb engagement during the forward motion. The escalator is distinguished by the fact that, with the help of a special version of the arrangement of the guide rails, at least also on the middle obliquely passing section of the reverse motion, the gear engagement structures of the adjacent steps are arranged with the comb engagement into each other. This reduces the size of the escalator, and adjacent steps (3) are directed by opposite sides when engaged with the combs, which reduces the occurrence of wear. The engagement with the combs of adjacent steps (3) during the reverse motion can be ensured, for example, by the fact that the steps during the implementation of the method are purposefully reclined relatively to each other by means of an arrangement of guide rails, so that then they are brought horizontally closer to each other.
EFFECT: escalator provides savings in structural space and the possibility to operate with little wear.
