FIELD: cutting tools.
SUBSTANCE: cutting insert contains a split cutting edge formed at the intersection of the front surface of the insert and the upper surface of the insert and including an axially front cutting edge and an axially rear cutting edge. On the front surface of the insert, there is an undercut that interrupts the split cutting edge in a section of the edge undercut that passes between the front and rear cutting edges. The section of the edge undercut passes into the axially rear cutting edge on the straight section of the rear cutting edge.
EFFECT: increased resistance of the cutting insert and improved chip formation are achieved.
