FIELD: material processing.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to material processing by cutting; it can be used in surface milling at high feed rate. Indexed cutting insert (20) has upper and lower surfaces (22, 24) with peripheral surface (26) passing between them and having four side surfaces (30) alternating with four angular surfaces (32). In the top view, four main cutting edges (46) set imaginary first square (S1). Each main cutting edge (46) is tangent to its adjacent angular cutting edge (42), and each additional cutting edge (48) is curved and completely located in one of four imaginary quadrants (Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4). The insert is fixed with the possibility of removal in rotating cutting tool (58) in such a way that one of additional cutting edges (48’) contains the most forward in the axial direction point (NA) of upper peripheral edge (28) of the insert.
EFFECT: processing performance is increased.
