FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to powder metallurgy, in particular, to production of a diamond-containing matrix for diamond tools. The diamond-containing matrix is comprised of tungsten carbide and an impregnating alloy in the form of low-alloy steel with a carbon content of no more than 0.1% wt. and a liquid phase formation point of 1,153 to 1,165°C. A charge is preliminarily prepared from diamond grains and pre-plasticized tungsten carbide powder particles, placed in a metal mould, and a briquette is formed. An impregnating alloy preform made of low-carbon steel with a carbon content of no more than 0.1% wt. is installed on the surface of the horizontally located diamond-containing briquette, coupled thereto by shape and size. Graphite is placed on the impregnating alloy preform, ensuring contact between the adjoining surfaces thereof, a load is applied to the graphite surface. Sintering with impregnation is executed by heating to a temperature of 600 to 800°C at a rate of no more than 10°C/min, followed by heating at a rate of 45 to 75°C/min to a temperature of 1,165°C and sustaining at this temperature for 10 to 30 minutes.
EFFECT: provided are high hardness and wear resistance of the matrix, increased strength and reliability of attachment of diamonds in the matrix.
