FIELD: ecology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to ecology and remote sensing, and in particular to a method for detecting the stage of restoration of vegetation in areas after natural, anthropogenic or man-made impacts by analyzing temperature anomalies of the underlying surface based on satellite imagery in the thermal infrared range of the spectrum for environmental control purposes. A method for identifying the stage of restoration of vegetation cover by analyzing temperature anomalies on satellite imagery of the underlying surface in the thermal IR range of the spectrum, characterized by the fact that, according to satellite data obtained at any time during the growing season (May-August), average values of the temperature of the underlying surface of local plots, after that, within the areas exposed to destructive effects on vegetation, the value of temperature anomalies (“temperature background”) is calculated relative to the values of the temperature field for the same survey period of adjacent undisturbed areas using the formula: ∆Trel = (T – Tbg)/Tbg, where Tbg is the temperature field of undisturbed areas, T is the temperature field of the disturbed area, and the stages of restoration of vegetation cover are determined by the magnitude of the relative temperature anomalies that appear for at least 15–20 years.
EFFECT: quantitative assessment of temperature anomalies of the underlying surface, making it possible for the purpose of environmental control to characterize the stage of the restoration process in vegetation cover (ground cover and forest stand) in areas subjected to natural, anthropogenic or technogenic impacts in comparison with the state of "background" undisturbed areas.
