FIELD: chemical industry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the chemical industry, metallurgy and environmental protection, and can be used for production of steels, alloys, magnetic powders and liquids, as well as catalysts. Technological waste from underground water treatment stations, such as washing water residue from de-ironing stations, is dispersed by ultrasonic impact providing an equivalent particle diameter of no more than 100 mcm in at least 90% of the total number thereof. The waste is then dehydrated to a relative humidity of no more than 90%. The dehydrated residue is loaded or fed continuously into a reaction chamber or reactor for reduction of iron compounds contained therein at a temperature of 300 to 900°C using a gas medium consisting of no less than 95% mixture of monoxide and carbon dioxide. The target product - iron compounds with ferromagnetic properties - is then separated from the components obtained as a result of the reduction reaction. The resulting highly dispersed iron-containing powders are cooled to a temperature of 90°C and less in order to lower the chemical activity thereof.

EFFECT: invention provides a possibility to expand the mineral resource base for manufacture of highly dispersed and nanodispersed iron-containing powders with a mass content of iron compounds of no less than 40%.
