FIELD: magnetic materials. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to multicomponent materials with magnetic properties applicable in varnish and dye industry, in graphic art, and magnetic data carrier production. Invention consists in using, as starting material, sludge from water treating systems in the form of emulsion and preparing superfine powder via heat treatment at 3500-5000 K when starting material in the form of aerosol jet is introduced into high- frequency pulse plasmotron along its axis and hardening is performed at 1500-2000 K. Magnetized carbon black is prepared by mixing magnetite powder obtained from water treating system sludge with carbon black followed by high-frequency current heating of mixture in graphite bowl at 1800-2100 K for 3-5 min, magnetite powder content in mixture being 10-20 wt %. The product obtained shows both well marked magnetic characteristics and pigment properties. EFFECT: reduced cost due to using inexpensive raw material. 4 cl, 1 tbl
