SUBSTANCE: invention relates to communication technology, in particular to means for receiving and processing modulated digital signals. A low-cost receiver for millimeter frequency range and the method for its operation are disclosed. In one embodiment of the invention, the method includes: receiving the first signal, converting the first signal with the first bandwidth with transfer to an intermediate frequency range, dividing the converted first signal into N intermediate signals, each of which has a bandwidth that is less than the bandwidth of a digital processor, where N is an integer greater than one, converting each of the N intermediate signals with a frequency reduction and its transfer to the second frequency range, processing a set of converted signals with reduced frequency by the digital processor to generate N processed signals, converting each of the N processed signals with a frequency increase and its transfer to the specified intermediate frequency range, converting signals converted with a frequency increase with its transfer to the third frequency range and transmitting converted signals.
EFFECT: providing communication in the E-band (covering the W-band and V-band), in particular 71-76 GHz for transmissions from satellites and 81-86 GHz for transmissions to satellites.
