SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the use of acetylleucine or its pharmaceutically acceptable salt in the treatment of a neurodegenerative disease or one or several symptoms related to a neurodegenerative disease in a subject who needs it. The neurodegenerative disease is selected from Alzheimer’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), multisystemic atrophy with dominant parkinsonism (MSA-P), multisystemic atrophy of the cerebellar type (MSA-C), frontotemporal dementia with parkinsonism, progressive supranuclear paralysis, corticobasal degeneration, cerebellar “beating” down nystagmus, dementia with Lewy bodies and ataxia-telangiectasia (Louis-Bar disease). Acetylleucine or its pharmaceutically acceptable salt is administered twice a day to provide a full daily dose from about 0.5 g to about 15 g.
