SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of photocatalysis, namely to catalysts and methods for their preparation, and can be used in the processes of photocatalytic separation of hydrogen from aqueous solutions of Na2S/Na2SO3 under the influence of visible radiation at room temperature. A catalyst for the process of photocatalytic production of hydrogen from an aqueous solution of Na2S/Na2SO3 under the action of visible radiation is described, containing a solid solution of cadmium and manganese sulfides with the addition of manganese oxide or hydroxide of the following composition: β-Mn3O4-MnOOH-Cd1-xMnxS, where x = 0.02 – 0.04, and a method for its preparation by hydrothermal treatment of a previously precipitated solid solution of manganese and cadmium sulfide with a solution of sodium sulfide through an intermediate stage of hydroxide formation. A method for producing hydrogen from an aqueous solution of Na2S/Na2SO3 under the action of visible radiation using the claimed catalyst is also described.

EFFECT: preservation of high activity of the catalyst prepared according to a simplified method in the processes of photocatalytic hydrogen separation from an aqueous solution of Na2S/Na2SO3 under the influence of visible radiation.
