SUPERCONDUCTING SOURCE OF HIGH-FREQUENCY NOISE Russian patent published in 2021 - IPC H01L39/16

Abstract RU 2757858 C1

FIELD: measuring technology

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to field of measuring technology and can be used to calibrate noise signal of sensitive amplifiers and detectors at low and ultra-low temperatures. A superconducting source of high-frequency noise contains a source of broadband shot noise in form of a superconducting tunnel junction and a source of broadband thermodynamic noise in the form of a microwave load, which are mounted on a dielectric substrate together with a common planar microwave transmission line, through which electrodes superconducting tunnel junction and microwave load are connected in series and coordinated in gigahertz frequencies. One output of the common planar microwave transmission line is grounded through a band-pass filter mounted on dielectric substrate, and its second output is connected via standard waveguide to low-frequency output of the device. The tunnel junction and the microwave load are connected by means of band-blocking filters to measure circuits with the possibility of independent direct current supply and its alternate forward and reverse transfer from superconducting to normal state. The matched microwave load is made of superconducting material in form of micron-sized film, and the operating temperature of dielectric substrate is below the temperatures of superconducting transition of the tunnel junction materials and microwave load.

EFFECT: invention provides reduced heat release into the measuring system, increases device performance during measurement process, and improves measuring plan and accuracy of measuring noise characteristics.
