FIELD: optical devices.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to compositions for optical fibers and other systems that transmit light in the near, medium and/or far ranges of the infrared spectrum, such as, for example, the wavelength range from 1.5 to 14 μm. Optical fibers contain a chalcogenide composition of a light-transmitting core and a shell composition. The chalcogenide composition of the light-transmitting core has a refractive index n(core) and a coefficient of thermal expansion CTE(core), and the shell composition has a refractive index n(shell) and a coefficient of thermal expansion CTE(shell), while n(shell) is less than n(core), and CTE(shell) is less than CTE(core). The chalcogenide composition of core glass contains, mol.%: sulfur 65-75, germanium 15-30, gallium 1-10. The shell composition contains sulfur and/or selenium, germanium and at least one component from a group: gallium, indium, tin and/or one or more metal halides. The shell composition and the core composition may have the same composition, except for the content of sulfur and/or selenium. The shell can also consist of polymer, such as UV-cured acrylate, silicone, polyimide.
EFFECT: reduction of absorption losses in fiber.
